Our story

  • Cakeable Charlotte is committed to training and equipping young adults with disabilites with transferable job skills. With Renee’s teaching experience in special education and our family’s involvement in local and global disability ministries, we’re passionate about maximizing every person’s capabilities and creating inclusive communities.
  • Renee holds a BA in Special Education from Furman University and a MA in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell. In addition to her years of experience baking for friends, family and large events, Renee formally received her ServSafe Manager Certification, completed a course in Cake decorating Fundamentals from Central Piedmont Community College and received a People’s Choice Award from the North Carolina chapter of the International Cake Exploration Society. She loves the opportunity to share her craft in order to enhance the potential of young adults who have disabilities.
  • Our family built our baking experience on making custom orders (cakes, cookies, and cake pops). As Cakeable Charlotte evolves into a nonprofit organization, we are moving away from custom baking and toward an intentional, adaptive model of job and life skills training. Our goal is to provide our training in a commercial kitchen which will allow our students and employees to bake for wholesale orders.
